To Her, To Us

It's the dreams she carried quietly. It's the choices — big and small and everything between.

It's not one kind of woman. It's all of them. The ones still figuring it out. The ones who always knew. The ones somewhere in between. It's International Women's Day, and it belongs to all of her.

I keep coming back to one memory. My mom, morning light, combing my hair before school. It was such a small thing. Routine, even.

Was she a morning person? Did she actually like doing hair? These feel like embarrassingly small questions to have never asked. She had a whole interior world I was too young to ask about and too comfortable to notice.

She just showed up, every morning, as if it cost her nothing. It didn't, of course. I know that now.

The older I get, the more I realize how much I absorbed without noticing. The way I carry myself in a room. The way I know, somehow, that I'm allowed to take up space.

I learned that from watching women who never made a show of it, women who taught me without knowing they were teaching me anything at all. Not roles. Not constants. Just wonderful, complicated beings living their own full lives.

All the ways they shaped me, quietly, without credit, without even realizing. Thank you will never quite be the right size. So we keep celebrating. Every chance we get.

The women who shaped us didn't wait until they had it all figured out. They just kept going, quietly, fully, beautifully on their own terms. And so do we.

Happy International Women's Day. Keep going, ladies.
